Minister Barry Andrews TD
PROFILE:

Born in Dublin, the son of former Government Minister David Andrews (T.D. 1965 - 2002), Barry was educated at Blackrock College, further at UCD and the Kings Inns. He holds a Masters Degree in Modern History. Before entering public life Barry was a secondary school teacher from 1991 to 1997 when he qualified as a Barrister.

Barry was first elected to public office in June 1999, when he was elected to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, (topping poll in Blackrock Ward). He was elected to Dáil Éireann in May 2002. Appointed Government convenor of the Education and Science Committee in September 2002.

A member of Dun Laoghaire Historical Society, RNLI and Blackrock College Football Club, Barry also serves on the Board of Governors of the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

In 2005 Barry was appointed National Chair of Ógra Fianna Fáil by an Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.

Upon Taoiseach Brian Cowen's election as Leader of Fianna Fáil and Taoiseach, he appointed Barry as Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children with responsibility for children and youth affairs in May 2008.
